CHEN Uen is the most celebrated artist in the field of comic art in Asia. His work is presented with a unique style of aesthetic that blends art forms of Chinese ink painting and western painting skills. His agility and skillfulness in using various materials has made him unparalleled, leading to the creation of the “Chen Uen aesthetic.”
CHEN Uen has set foot in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and Japan. He rocked the art scene in Japan in the 1990s with his work To Shu Eiyuden (Heroes of the East Chou Dynasty), winner of the Japan Cartoonists Association Award.
This film focuses on CHEN Uen’s art career, depicting his aesthetics of life through his works and interviews with related persons. Revolving around CHEN and his artworks, this film also gives a brief overview of the comic industries in Greater China and Japan to explore and carry forth CHEN’s legacy.
