His work The Noblest Way to Die was nominated for five awards at the 29th Golden Horse Awards for Best Director, Film, Leading Actor, Supporting Actor, and Original Screenplay, and won the audience’s vote for Best Film. In 1998, he filmed the action movie Confucius Arrest in New York, which was sold to 27 countries at the American Film Market.​​
