Far East Film Festival Selects Seven Films and Projects from Taiwan

TAICCA and FEFF co-organize pitching workshops to elevate co-production opportunities

 

Udine Far East Film Festival (FEFF) in Italy, as a key event for Asian cinema in the European market, has announced nominations and selections on April 13th. Five Taiwanese films and two projects are included in the list. Incantation, written and directed by Kevin KO, and Mama Boy by Arvin CHEN will take part in the 42-title competition. Terrorizers by Wi Ding HO and Chih-hsin HU enters the Best of the Best section. Restored by Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute, Swordsman of All Swordsmen will be screened in the Restored Classics section. Industry event Focus Asia ALL GENRES PROJECT MARKET also selected two projects from Taiwan: Imprisonment produced by Szu Mei TUNG and directed by Tzu-Hsuan HUNG as well as Borderless produced by Susan HUANG and directed by Chun-Teng CHU. In the Morning of La Petite Mort directed by Yu-lin WANG, is also selected in the FAR EAST IN PROGRESS section. The film will have a chance to win the 108 MEDIA Distribution Award.

 

Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) continues to collaborate with FEFF this year. The training program and pitching workshop are designed to bring filmmakers in Taiwan closer to international investors, producers, and buyers. “FEFF has long been promoting co-productions between Asia and Europe,” said TAICCA CEO Izero LEE. “TAICCA works with various international organizations to develop and consolidate international professional networks favorable for project development, professional training programs and global market development. Our efforts systematically introduce the latest trends to creators, highlight Taiwanese projects in international markets, and establish Taiwan as the premium co-production partner in Asia.”

Producer Susan HUANG will present her new project Borderless at Focus Asia ALL GENRES PROJECT MARKET this year. As the alumni of TAICCA SCHOOL X EAVE Ties That Bind Workshop, HUANG said her team is ready to dive into the co-production markets in Europe.

In addition, TAICCA and FEFF selected five projects with co-production potentials between Asia and Europe. After training workshops and expert consultation, these teams will pitch virtually at the dedicated TAIWAN Showcase on April 26th. The teams will also have access to individual meetings with international investors and buyers. Among the five selected projects, Grandma and Her Ghosts 2 – Baby Power by Shau-di Wang won TAICCA Original Award at Golden Horse Film Project Promotion last year. The other four projects participated in TAICCA SCHOOL X EAVE Ties That Bind workshop in 2021.

 

The titles selected for the Focus Asia TAIWAN Showcase are:

  • Forbidden Blossoms, directed by Ha-Poi Cheng – Hyper Pictures 
  • Grandma and Her Ghost 2 – Baby Power, directed by WANG Shau-di – Farmers ’Joy International Co. 
  • Malice, directed by Lungyin LIM – TYDAL Productions
  • Honey Milk, directed by Chien-Yu Lin – ENLA Media Limited
  • The Horse, directed by LAN Yi-tzu – Original Films

 

TAICCA will also attend the Asia Film Financing Forum virtually and introduce Taiwan’s International Co-funding Program (TICP) and other resources available in Taiwan. Other organizations in the session include Film Development Council Philippines and Catalan Film & TV.

FEFF will be held from April 22nd to April 30th in Udine, Italy. Industry event, Focus Asia, will take place for 3 days in a hybrid form from April 26th to April 28th. Award Winners will be announced on April 30th to conclude the event.
