Tenmoku, known as a type of Japanese pottery and porcelain, originates in imitating Chinese stoneware “Jian ware” of the Song dynasty. That was the time while a number of Japanese monks traveled to China to study Zen Buddhism, they brought the tea ceremony and the Jian ware back to Japan. This was how Japan’s world-known Tenmoku originated from.
This documentary takes the audience to the studios of pottery artists in Taiwan, Japan, China and the Europe, watching how they devote their passion of pottery-making to the creation of Tenmoku. In their tiny little space, they extend indefinitely the insight of creation. Through a small Tenmoku tea bowl, they see the universe of their life.
