After studying traditional Japanese-style carpentry by himself, YANG devotes sixteen years to building his dream home. He handles the entire process of building a house, from designing a blueprint to acquiring wood, starting construction, assembling columns, tiling the roof, and making the interior. YANG grew up with parents who lived through Taiwan’s “White Terror” period and had to leave his hometown at a young age. The film faithfully captures the long process of building a home for his family under the weight of time. One man’s dream becomes a family’s aspiration; one man’s volition leads to a touching outcome – this is worth recording; this is a history.
