In 1950, as the Korean War broke out, the clash between democracy and communism intensified, shaking the international landscape. In Taiwan, the top 1% of elites were drawn to Bonfire Island by the tides of the era. In this world of spiritual and material deprivation, everyone sought reasons to survive. Several individuals on the island brought medical care, education, agriculture, engineering, and art to Bonfire Island, forging bonds that grew even stronger than familial ties.
1950年韓戰爆發，民主與共產兩大陣營響起對抗號角，國際局勢詭譎震盪，在台灣，百分之一的頂尖菁英，隨著時代風湧匯聚到火燒島。在一個精神與物質全然貧瘠的世界裡，每個人都在尋找活下去的理由，幾位島上的人為火燒島帶來醫療、教育、農業、工程與藝術，並發展出比親情更綿長的情誼。
