This is a story about coming to terms with unconscious trauma. Dong-Ming, born into a prominent family, moves into the Tenjin building with his daughter Song-Tzi. He meets three neighbors and slowly uncovers secrets of the past by spying on them. Dong-Ming seems to witness his mother giving birth to him after having an affair, sees his supposed father murdering his rival’s daughter in revenge, and realizes that the violent patterns in his own relationship with Wei-Wei mimic those of his original family.
In the past, during an argument with Wei-Wei, Dong-Ming locked his son Han-Han in the basement storeroom and confined Wei-Wei, who was pregnant with Song-Tzi, to a room. That night, a typhoon struck and a landslide washed away the property Dong-Ming’s father had left him after his death. Wei-Wei, Song- Tzi, and Han-Han all died in this incident. Unable to bear the pressure any longer, Dong-Ming jumped off the roof of Tenjin Building with Wei-Wei’s photo in his hand. All of these past events resurface after Dong- Ming moves into the community and meets Hank, who, like a manifestation of his subconscious, forces him to confront his buried memories.
