A clash between privilege and conscience, Extranjera follows Epa, a public-school teacher and daughter of a politician under investigation for corruption. Unable to withstand public scrutiny, she flees to Taiwan, in search of her estranged mother. While searching for her, she drifts through Taipei’s bustling streets, indulging in fleeting romances and distractions along the way on her search for her mother. But the city’s neon glow can’t mask her inner turmoil. When she finally turns to her mother, she finds not comfort but a challenge: to take control of her life. Realizing she can’t outrun her past, Epa returns to Puerto Rico to confront the father she once idolized—and to reclaim her own identity.
