In the midsummer of southern Taiwan, a fishing village shrouded in blood-red hues is as silent as a ghost town. A series of child deaths has plagued the village. Some believe it is a strange disease targeting children, while others think it is a terrifying evil spirit taking lives. HUANG Cai-feng, a gentle and kind mother who moved to the village a year ago, frequently attends the funerals of local children during this period, offering comfort and tirelessly assisting with the arrangements. In her otherwise loveless and meaningless life, she finds a sense of being needed. She discovers that by secretly poisoning more children, she gradually gains control over her life and even feels a god-like power within herself. As the police officer WU Jin-long gets closer to the truth, Cai-feng’s murders grow more frequent. She decides to plan more intricate murders as a desperate act to resist reality.
