Once a beloved classic, now reborn for a new generation —

Grandma and Her Ghosts is a culturally iconic animated feature that premiered 26 years ago and has since become a beloved classic of Taiwanese animation. Blending Taoist folklore, spiritual rituals, and a heartfelt bond between a mischievous grandson and his ghost-fighting grandmother, the film was seen by over two-thirds of Taiwan’s population and continues to resonate across generations.

Now in production, the standalone sequel Grandma and Her Ghosts 2: Baby Power revisits this legacy through a new protagonist — a baby boy named Doumio. When a light begins to glow from the soft spot on his head, he discovers a mystical connection to the universe. This magical power transports him back in time to his great-grandmother’s childhood during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. There, he uncovers the origins of her becoming a Taoist priest and helps resolve an old spiritual grudge that has haunted the family for decades.

The film explores themes of identity, intergenerational memory, and transformation, set against a backdrop of Taiwanese cultural history and magical realism. It is slated for theatrical release in summer 2026.
