GU NIANG: THE GHOST MAIDEN

The story is adapted from the true incident of the Cijin ferry accident 50 years ago. It describes the courage of women in a patriarchal society to overcome the fear of turning into ghosts if they die unmarried.

Religious Studies assistant FANG Yi-hsin, whose neighboring older sister died young and became a “Gu Niang” in the maiden temple, has faced the pressure of becoming a restless spirit if she dies unmarried. She was disowned by her father and dismissed by the school when her scandalous affair with the professor was exposed. As female drowning cases kept emerging in Longgang, Yi-hsin was asked to assist in the investigations. She discovered that all victims had visited the maiden temple and wore red threads on their wrists. Soon, she learned that the temple’s ghosts all perished in a ferry accident 50 years ago, and the victims were killed by the “Gu Niang.” Initially thinking that the temple’s secret was solved, she was kidnapped by the actual perpetrator of the ferry incident. Will she face the fate of being another victim?
宗教系助教方儀心兒時的鄰居姊姊因早逝被送進姑娘廟，成為「孤娘」，讓她一直承受著女子未婚死後會成為孤魂野鬼的壓力。她因為與教授的不倫戀曝光被父親趕出家門，即將被學校解雇。此時龍港出現多起女子溺斃命案，方儀心受警方所託協助辦案，發現受害者都到過姑娘廟，手上都戴著紅繩。沒多久她也被鬼魂纏上⋯⋯。
