GUEIFEI

This is the story of “Gueifei”, a mixed-race illegitimate child, in 1960s Taiwan. Born in a prominent Taiwanese family, Gueifei’s mother was expelled from home because of her pregnancy out of wedlock. After giving birth to Gueifei, she married FENG, a soldier from mainland China. Since Gueifei suffered from congenital heart disease, Gueifei’s mother once promised Mr. NAKAMURA, a Japanese businessman who saved Gueifei from the disease, that if Gueifei could live to 20 years old, she would let Gueifei marry him. “Father” is a common issue in the fate of the mother and daughter. It is also a topic about the survival of women in Taiwan’s traditional culture and patriarchal era.
台灣1960年代的一位混血私生女「貴妃」的故事。出生台灣望族的貴妃媽，因未婚懷孕被逐出家門，生下貴妃後，嫁給了外省軍人老馮。貴妃患先天心臟病，貴妃媽曾允諾救助貴妃的日本商人中村，貴妃若能活至20歲即嫁於他。「父親」是母女倆命運中的共同議題，也是一個關於台灣傳統文化與父權時代下女性的生存議題。
