KISSING THE GROUND YOU WALKED ON

The debut feature by Macanese director HONG Heng-fai and the first Macanese film to receive a nomination at the Golden Horse Awards. It was selected for the Bright Future section of IFFR 2023 and won the Best Director award at the Hong Kong International Film Festival 2023.

In the suffocating summer heat, CHOU, a writer who hasn’t written in years, is looking for a tenant to share a spare room in his house. One day, CHIANG, a young man who claims to be an actor, comes to rent the space. But, unfortunately, CHOU discovers that CHIANG’s daily life is a performance, and he enjoys being a loyal audience to this fake persona.

The drama Seagull, starring CHIANG, is about to be staged. However, he is suddenly dropped by the team due to his inability to act. Frustrated to lose his role, CHIANG discovers that CHOU is writing the protagonist of his latest novel based on him. They are now confused by the illusion and desire for different parts, leading to the same ending.
