In Season 2 of Local Heroes or Village Idiots?, four well-known actors and a resident village dog cross Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range to spend a month living in Hakka villages in eastern Taiwan. More than an experiential reality show, the series has its cast living alongside local residents, responding to real community needs and working side by side to complete a series of seemingly impossible missions. From supporting children’s learning and rebuilding a senior baseball team to co-creating a community festival featuring a local market, live music, an outdoor stage performance, and hands-on cultural experiences, every mission is driven by collaboration with the people who call the community home. The festival ultimately draws visitors from across Taiwan into the Hakka villages, transforming the community itself into the heart of the celebration. More than showcasing the beauty of the region, the series reveals how genuine participation fosters meaningful connections and brings the culture and everyday life of Hakka villages in eastern Taiwan to a wider audience.
