“Beneath the Ruins” is the name of a group of volunteer ruin enthusiasts. Led by Haowei, they work tirelessly to clean up and protect abandoned ruins that hold significant cultural value in their eyes.

Each member of the team has their own reasons for joining, whether it be a love for photography, a search for a sense of belonging, a desire to find adventure, or even just for the thrill of possibly encountering ghosts.

Together, they embark on a journey to discover the hidden treasures and mysteries that lie within ruins, and into uncovering the personal stories of the people who once inhabited them. Like the Japanese shrine in Taitung, or the jade bathhouse in Yilan, both remnants from the Japanese colonial era. The story itself is deeply rooted in Taiwan’s history during that time.

As for the members of “Beneath the Ruins”, their adventures also lead them on a journey that reveals the secrets hidden in their own hearts.
