OFF THE BASEBALL FIELD

Founded 35 years ago, the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) has entrenched baseball into the daily lives of not just fans, but the people of Taiwan. Baseball means more than the thrilling show of athleticism on the field. Commentators and broadcasters commentating on the ball games, eye-catching cheerleaders, cheering fans, scouts looking to prove themselves, and baseball influencers emerging from new media and self-media platforms are all ardent fans of baseball that continue to support the sport. Their lives are also inextricably tied to baseball. “Off the Baseball Field” is a documentary series that shines away from the game and baseball stars,
opting not to analyze the structural problems crippling Taiwan’s sports industry from the CPBL. Rather, it chooses to turn the spotlight onto people off and along the field, documenting the work, lives, careers, and journeys of 12 individuals across five professions: broadcasters, commentators, fans, cheerleaders, scouts, and baseball influencers, painting the unique landscape of Taiwanese baseball.
