RED ENVELOPE

Through the perspective of the new immigrant, our film examines universal issues and values with a LGBTQ+ looking glass, propelling the film’s potential to seek international co-production opportunities to develop features in the future.

Andy and his Taiwanese husband, Ilan, recently registered their marriage in Taiwan. To celebrate, they visit their favorite food stall at the local night market for dinner. As Andy spots a red envelope on the ground and picks it up, an elderly Taiwanese woman, known as Ama, suddenly appears. According to local tradition, she tells Andy that he is the chosen husband of her deceased granddaughter, Xin-yi. Therefore, they must get married before Xin-yi’s one-hundredth-day memorial, or she will be stuck in limbo forever. Andy and Ilan are shocked and quickly walk away, while Ama hopes that Andy will return soon.
