ROCKING AGAINST THE TIDES

This Taiwanese independent music documentary highlights venues and musicians in Taipei’s Gongguan and Shida Region, the underground rock capital. It explores their struggles with COVID-19 lockdowns and urban redevelopment.
由金馬獎最佳紀錄片得主蘇哲賢執導，拍攝1976樂團主唱阿凱、昆蟲白、HUSH等創作者，在「海邊的卡夫卡」因面臨都更與疫情影響而即將歇業之際，重回此地。

Gongguan and Shida area have nurtured a generation of rock musicians in Taiwan. The avant-garde post-rock band ‘Sugar Plum Ferry,’ emerged from this scene, which used music to challenge its audience and respond to the era’s questions. Saying farewell to Sugar Plum Ferry, Insecteens returns after an 11-year hiatus with the album ‘Moments,’ only to face the impending closure of Kafka by the Sea café. The documentary follows him as he bids adieu to performance venues, marriage, and memories. Determined to carry on his musical journey, he strums the melodies of his rock poetry.
台北公館與師大一帶孕育出台灣一個世代的搖滾樂手，後搖代表「甜梅號」也在此發跡，他們用音樂挑戰聽眾，回應時代的叩問。告別甜梅號，昆蟲白睽違11年再度發行專輯，卻面臨「海邊的卡夫卡」因都更即將結束營業。紀錄片跟隨他向充滿回憶的表演場地告別，也告別婚姻和過去，他決心以音樂繼續他的旅程，彈奏屬於他的搖滾詩歌。
