Held once every decade, the sacred Pasta’ay ritual of Taiwan’s SaySiyat people was vividly captured in 1986. Documenting the community’s rehearsals, intricate ceremonies, and ritual reenactments, the film gracefully portrays the tension between tradition and modernity. 15 ceremonial songs form a rhythmic backbone, blending reality and myth, past and present, to illuminate the resilience of indigenous identity. The filmmakers sensitively reflect the SaySiyat’s emotional responses, presenting an intimate, thought-provoking portrait and a cultural message crafted for future generations.
