Shot in widescreen, which was rare in those years, the film is one of the few surviving Hokkien-language color films. It is also the first arthouse romance Hokkien-language film (Taiyupian) in color.

The LIN family from Taiwan operates a shipping business in Okinawa. To elevate their family business, the father expectantly passes on his responsibility as a captain to his second son, Hung-hai. However, Hung-hai falls for the daughter of their adversaries, Hsiu-ling, and refuses to marry the famous TV star Yoshiko, as arranged by his father. This decision strains the father-son relationship.

Meanwhile, misled by Yoshiko’s announcement of marriage on TV, Hsiu-ling returns to Taiwan desolately to avoid being found by Hung-hai. She even engages in a drunken encounter with A-chin, the eldest son of the Lins, who was born handicapped. Unresolved animosity from the parental generation not only transforms Hung-hai from a hopeful man into a gloomy alcoholic but also leads to Hsiu-ling becoming his sister-in-law due to a twist of fate.

What will be the fate of these star-crossed lovers?
