THE MAGICIAN OF TASTE

Hakka people use “not having enough salt” to describe a physically weak person. In traditional Hakka culture, salt is the source of energy. In the early days, people engaged in heavy labor; to quickly gain energy, they needed to eat more salt. With time passing, salt has become a symbol of a person’s strength and courage in Hakka culture.The film uses “the practice of magic” as the main theme and cleverly depicts the process of making preserved radish, Suan-cai, Fu-cai, dried pickled mustard green, and pickled pork, in an attempt to show the Hakka pickling culture.

客家人以「沒吃鹽」來形容一個人手無縛雞之力。《鹽个精靈》以「魔法修練」的敘述梗概，巧妙地將菜脯、酸菜、福菜、梅乾菜、鹹豬肉等製作過程呈現出來，藉此體現客家的醃漬文化。
