Chua, a middle-aged man does not seem to have much of a connection with anyone, his occupation taking him amongst the deserted spaces of steel and concrete in contemporary Singapore. A quiet, solitary man by nature, the long hours meld into an endless cycle of night and day. The only relationship he seems to have is with his teenage son, Meng, to whom he returns home to everyday. Hiding his failings from Meng, a deeply sensitive boy, he keeps his troubles to himself. Meng, left to his own devices, seeks to find his place in the same spaces that his father inhabits. In the dense, confined spaces of the city and stifling societal forces, the relationship between father and son grows estranged and slowly becomes unbearable. In a desperate bid to free themselves from this vicious cycle, Chua sets a path to change the course of their destiny.

中年船工道康依靠兒子小蒙的陪伴。道康年輕時從台灣移民到新加坡工作，為了生存，他以強悍的外表掩飾內心的脆弱；但兒子小蒙剛好相反，小蒙內心敏感強韌，並不若外表看來的怯懦，他發覺自己與父親的不同之處。道康則從年輕移工爍的身上找到小蒙的影子。

在新加坡這座擁擠封閉的現代城市裡，父子間的關係越來越緊張。為了脫離惡性循環，道康決定進行一場「放生」。小蒙在森林中遇到的人事物， 如夢，卻真實。道康希望這場「祭典」可以帶給他們更好的未來，但他沒預料到死亡的到來，已經為他兒子鋪下了未來的路程。
