LEGEND: MEN-CHUAN YANG, FISHING AND NET WEAVING

YANG Men-chuan, a fisherman with over half a century of fishing experience, grew up by the sea. Unlike most Hakka people who have memories of farming, his family’s fields had been sold off before he was born and his ancestors had already turned to the ocean for development. Hand-woven netting is an essential skill for fishermen. Even though his father once laughed at him for being clumsy and slowing down progress, YANG Men-chuan still maintained a diligent and courageous attitude, and seriously learned how to weave fishing nets by hand.
